A lecture-show that traces 60 years of customs, social issues, fashion and pop culture through the way the Barbie doll has evolved. A story that, starting from 1959 to the present day, reveals what professions Barbie has had during each decade, how her body has been reshaped, what celebrities she has been inspired by, and what controversies she has raised. All of this is possible through 80 images and a text with a light tone, even funny at times, but which tackles fundamental issues such as women’s bodies, gender identity, and racism. This work has been presented at the Festival Internazionale in Ferrara and Internazionale Kids in Reggio Emilia.
Claudio Rossi Marcelli is a columnist for Internazionale. He answers questions from readers in the Dear Daddy column and hosts the daily podcast Il Mondo. He has written Hello daddy! and E il cuore salta un battito.
