A show by Giulia Spattini / Paolo Rosini / Balletto Civile
Age group: 14-18
A three-round boxing match that aims to tell the story of Elizabeth I from an unprecedented point of view. Young author Giulia Spattini stages the clash, which takes place within the mind of the future queen of England, between her own identity as a woman and the responsibility of governing the country. A destiny that Elizabeth had neither imagined nor desired. With an original scenic language (the result of the creative mixture of dance, speech, songs, and the influences of cinema and paintings), the show portrays a woman who is the bearer of dilemmas and thoughts that are still burning today. Elizabeth I is a sui generis wrestler, confronting her coach/consciousness in an unusual ring, with the realization that it is necessary “to struggle in order to choose, to be true to one’s self, whatever that means, as long as it is true. A struggle of one’s self against one’s self.”
Giulia Spattini is an Italian performer and choreographer. From 2006 to 2009 she approached the study of theater, dance and singing at the Talento Art School in Modena, and in 2009 she encountered the work of the Balletto Civile company, where she joined permanently in 2011. Other collaborations include one with Francesco Origo and one as a dancer in a short film directed by Oscar-winning director Paolo Sorrentino.
