A workshop by Lara Guidetti
5 sessions with a final presentation.
Age group: 14-19 y/o
This workshop aims to highlight the participatory potential of ballroom dancing by reviewing practices related to different dance genres over time. Each student will be able to express their personality freely, while connecting with common rules and codes related to musical tempos, spatial awareness, steps and relationships. Starting with mazurka and ballroom dancing, the workshop will go through charleston, woogie boogie, and social dances, all the way to electronic sounds and free movement based on a BEAT, a common heartbeat. An attempt will be made to investigate how each style mirrors historical, social and cultural changes in its era and how it intercepts current issues regarding contamination, integration and the deconstruction of roles and genders.
